Stéphen Sommier (1848-1922), botanist of Franco-Italian origin, founded together Paolo Mantegazza the Italian Society of Anthropology an Ethnology of Florence.
Attracted by boreal people, he embarked on several expeditions for the Great North that allowed him to execute ethnological and anthropological studies with an extensive photographic documentation.
This book, published at the author's expense in 1885, is the precious report of his study travel trough Siberia in 1880.
Enrico Mazzanti made the original illustrations.
