JEFF CARLSON’S PLAGUE YEAR IS SPREADING American author Jeff Carlson recently sold German language rights for his thriller novel Plague Year and its two sequels to Piper Verlag via the Donald Maass Literary Agency, in best bid auction, for a “significant” deal in the high five figures. Piper intends to publish the first volume in September 2008 as “part of a special marketing campaign aiming to link phantastic and mainstream novels in order to widen the range for ‘phantastic thrillers’ in both the mainstream and the science fiction/fantasy market,” including advertising, special pages in Piper catalogues, and cross-promotion in genre and non-genre media.
Spanish language rights for Plague Year sold to Minotauro in a preemptive bid over its rival publisher Plaza / RHM. Russian language rights went to Astrel, and more foreign deals are in the works.
English audio rights have been secured by Recorded Books.
Plague Year was published in North America by Penguin in August 2007 to wide acclaim. New York Times bestselling author James Rollins hailed the book as "Harrowing, heartfelt, and rock-hard realistic. Not to be missed."
"Pure adrenaline," says SF Reviews.
The first sequel, Plague War, is slated for release in North America in August 2008, with the next title set to follow in Summer 2009.
